Este é um ensaio composto por 14 pares de fotografias sobre as contradições da Ilha do Governador. Essa ilha é um bairro localizado na Zona Norte do Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brasil, situado dentro da Baía de Guanabara que, por sua vez, é totalmente poluída. Viver na Ilha é viver na praia e não poder usá-la. É viver em um bairro calmo e não ter o que fazer. É viver uma utopia de sossego, segurança e qualidade de vida encravada em uma das zonas mais perigosas da cidade; mas é lidar a todo momento com a caótica realidade que subjaz essa fantasia. Na Ilha a vida não se presta a definição por binômios maquiavelicamente separados, mas brota da complexidade pulsante e potente dos que se recusam a deixar de vivê-la. Nem sonho, nem pesadelo. E tudo isso ao mesmo tempo.

This is an essay built of 14 pairs of photographs showing the contradictions of Ilha do Governador. This island is a neighbourhood located at the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro’s city, RJ, Brazil. It is inside the Guanabara Bay, a heavily polluted bay in which some sports will take place during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Living on this island is living on a beach and not being able to use it. It is living on a calm neighbourhood and having nothing to do. It is living a peaceful, secure and full of quality utopia embedded in one of the most dangerous areas of the city; but it is also dealing everywhere with a chaotic reality that sustain this fantasy. At Ilha life cannot be defined by Machiavellian binomials. It springs from the powerful and pulsating will of those who refuse not living it. Neither a dream, nor a nightmare. And both of them at the same time.
